Samriddhi Expressway Bus Accident: A horrific bus accident took place on the Samriddhi Expressway on Saturday, in which 25 people were burnt to death. An official said that a total of 234 motorists were caught driving at high speed here, out of which 77 were caught through the computerized system installed on the road. The design speed of this expressway is 150 kmph and the speed limit is 120 kmph. Road Safety Deputy Commissioner Bharat Kalaskar said that the action was taken using RTO interceptor vehicles as well as computerized systems. It was checked for worn tires at the entry points and action was taken for flouting the rules at the exit points.

Action on drivers

The speed of the vehicles is detected by a computer system and due to this these vehicles automatically get caught and stop at the toll plaza. Kalaskar told that some vehicles were detected through interceptor vehicles and then the inspector stopped them at the toll plaza. Over-speeding of vehicles is one of the major reasons for most of the accidents on the road, but the data shows that the RTO teams have focused more on other violations like no parking and lane cutting. As per the official figures, a total of 3169 motorists faced action for ‘no parking’ violation, while 2204 for ‘lane cutting’ and 1043 for not applying reflective tape. Due to the reflective tape the vehicles are easily visible to other motorists at night.
