Wrongly Subsidy Claim on Electric Two-Wheeler: The central government is considering measures to punish half-a-dozen electric scooter manufacturers who have been found guilty of unfairly availing subsidies under the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) scheme.
Penalty option: Such companies may be barred from availing government subsidies in future as well as availing exemptions on two-wheelers sold in the last 15 months, said a senior government official.

Government sent recovery notice: Last month, the government had sent recovery notices to seven companies – Hero Electric, Okinawa Autotech, Ampere EV, Revolt Motors, Benling India, Lohia Auto and AMO Mobility – for nearly ₹500 crore for violating local sourcing norms Do not meet the standards under FAME II for claiming the amount.
The government stopped a subsidy of Rs 1,400-1,500 crore under the FAME-II scheme to electric two-wheeler manufacturers following allegations by a social activist. For which the companies wrongly claimed to have taken subsidy, without meeting the local sourcing rules.
What is the matter?
In fact, to promote electric vehicles in the country, under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) scheme, the government was giving a substantial subsidy to companies making electric two-wheelers. So that the cost of vehicles can be made available to the people at the least cost. But according to the government, many EV manufacturers have been claiming subsidy bypassing the rules to be followed under FAME II in order to get more subsidy.
