2000 Rupees Notes: RBI (Reserve Bank Of India) has said that till July 31, 2023, a total of 88 percent notes of Rs 2000 have been returned to the banking system. According to RBI, till May 19, 2023, a total of Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 3.56 lakh crore were in circulation. And by July 31, 2023, Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 3.14 lakh crore have been returned to the banks. Now only Rs 42,000 crore notes are left in circulation. 30 September 2023 is the last date for depositing or exchanging 2,000 notes.
RBI has released the status regarding 2000 rupee notes. The Central Bank said that on May 19, 2023, the RBI had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes. Till March 31, 2023, a total of Rs 3.62 lakh crore was present in Rs 2,000 note circulation, which decreased to Rs 3.56 lakh crore on May 19, 2023.

RBI said that according to the data received from the banks, till July 31, 2023, notes worth Rs 3.14 lakh crore have returned to the banking system from circulation. RBI said that now only Rs 42,000 crore of notes are left in circulation. In such a situation, since the announcement of the withdrawal of RBI’s Rs 2,000 notes on May 19, 2023, 88 percent of the notes have been returned.
RBI told that out of the 2,000 rupee notes that have come back, 87 percent of the notes have been deposited in bank accounts. While 13 per cent 2000 rupee notes have been exchanged with other notes.
Appealing to the common people, the RBI said that they now have two months left to deposit or exchange Rs 2000 notes. To avoid last minute rush, RBI has appealed to people to deposit or exchange notes before 30 September 2023.
