Passenger Vehicle Sales June 2023: For the sixth month this year, there is a continuous increase in the sales of passenger vehicles. Automakers have been consistently receiving bookings for sports utility vehicles (SUVs) such as the Jimny, Franks and Toyota Hider, among others. Also, the chip shortage is gradually reducing, new models are being launched. The cars on which the voting period was longer is gradually decreasing. Companies are increasing production capacity. This pace of development is expected to remain intact in this month of July as well.
Maruti Suzuki (+8%)
Total sales of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) increased by 2 percent to 1,59,418 units in June. The country’s largest carmaker had dispatched 1,55,857 units to dealers in June 2022. Last month, the company’s domestic passenger vehicle sales increased by 8 percent to 1,33,027 units as against 1,22,685 units last year.
In a statement issued by MSIL, it said, “The shortage of electronic equipment has had a minor impact on the production of vehicles. The company has made every effort to reduce this impact.”
Hyundai Motor India (+2.04%)
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) revealed that it sold 50,001 units last month. Which has increased by only 2.04 percent year-on-year. On the other hand, if we look at the figures of last year, then the domestic sales figure has been 49,001 units.
Speaking on June 2023 sales, HMIL COO Tarun Garg said, “All our products are receiving positive customer response. In the first half of 2023, Hyundai Verna, Creta and Tucson continue to be leaders in their segments. Our upcoming SUV, the Hyundai Xtor is garnering tremendous enthusiasm among our valued customers. We look forward to introducing this benchmark SUV in India very soon.”
Toyota Kirloskar (+10.5%)
Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 18,237 units last month, registering a growth of 10.5 percent year-on-year. Whereas last year this domestic sales figure was 16,500 units.
MG Motor India (+14%)
MG Motor India has sold 5,125 units in June 2023 with a 14 percent increase in retail sales as compared to the same month last year. The British carmaker had registered sales of 4,504 units in June 2022 last year.
The company said in a statement, “Supply was disrupted in the wake of Cyclone Biperjoy, however now consumer demand should pick up post monsoon as India gears up for a long festive season.”
Tata Motors (+5%)
Including electric vehicle (EV) sales, Tata Motors’ total passenger vehicle sales also grew by 5 percent to 47,235 units last month. The Mumbai-based company had sold 45,197 units in June 2022 last year. For the month of June, the company registered total sales of 47,359 units (including international trade), thus registering a growth of almost 5 percent as compared to June 2022.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, “The passenger vehicle industry in Q1 FY24 witnessed strong demand driven by new launches, especially in the SUV segment and EVs SUVs have contributed about 64 per cent of the sales for the first quarter of FY 2024. “Going forward that said, we expect demand to remain strong with the onset of the festive season in the second half of Q2FY24,” he added.
