Ola Helmet Detection System: Currently, India is the largest market for two-wheelers. But our country is still far behind in the matter of safety of two wheeler drivers. Many people can be seen riding without helmets on Indian roads. But now to deal with this, the leading two wheeler EV company Ola Electric is working on a helmet detection system for its electric two wheelers.
How does it work?
Ola’s helmet detection system uses a camera to detect whether the rider is wearing a helmet or not. It then sends this information to the vehicle control unit (the VCU is used for an EV, while an ECU is used for an ICE vehicle) and is then relayed to the motor controller unit, which determines whether Whether the vehicle will switch to ride mode or not.
Scooter will not run without helmet
If the vehicle is in RIDE mode and the system detects that the rider is not wearing a helmet, the EV will automatically go into PARK mode and once the vehicle is in PARK mode, a prompt will be displayed on the dashboard to prompt the rider to wear the helmet. A reminder will appear. In this case the system is able to detect, and only when the rider has put on the helmet, the VCU will allow the electric scooter/bike to switch to ride mode, and even after that it will continue to monitor the rider.
TVS is also bringing helmet reminder system
TVS also recently announced that it is working on a camera-based helmet reminder system, but Ola’s system will take the company ahead of others. This is because if the rider is not wearing a helmet then the vehicle cannot be driven forward. While TVS’s system only shows a warning message to the rider, there is no information available if the vehicle is locked in park mode.
