Maruti Suzuki Cars: Irrespective of its size, it is to be expected that every new Maruti Suzuki will be better in terms of mileage. This is also true for its premium car, the Grand Vitara. Talking about its powertrains, the Grand Vitara is available with a strong hybrid and a mild hybrid or a ‘smart hybrid’. We had the compact SUV for a few months, which was enough time to see if it lives up to what Maruti claims it to be.
Coming to the specifications, the mild hybrid Grand Vitara is powered by a new 1.5l petrol engine tuned to 103bhp. Which gives you a mileage of 21.1 km/l on manual petrol while up to 20.58 km/l on automatic. There is also an AWD petrol manual with this engine, but we are not talking about that here. We get the automatic petrol mild hybrid with a 6-speed automatic and paddle shifters. The company claims a mileage of up to 20 km/l, while we got around 14-15 km/l in the city. While on the highway, there was a slight increase in it and it increased slightly to 17 km/l. These figures don’t quite match the Strong Hybrid, but for a 1.5L petrol automatic, it’s pretty good and nothing can match it. Even after the entire ride and the car was loaded with luggage, it didn’t drop below 12.5 kmpl even once.
So for its price, the mild hybrid and smart hybrid make a lot of sense for its mileage. About which we are talking. The mild hybrid gets ISG plus torque assist and idle engine start-stop, and the engine has also been tuned for better fuel efficiency. How is its performance? Stay tuned for its more detailed review.
