Mahindra Roxor Sales Started in America: Mahindra & Mahindra launched its off-roader Roxor in 2018 in the United States. Since its launch, Mahindra has been facing several lawsuits from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)-Stellentis over the Jeep-like design of its vehicle. In a recent report, Mahindra has said that it has received approval to manufacture and sell the Roxor with design updates given from 2020 onwards.

In a regulatory filing, Mahindra said that on July 19, 2023, the Eastern District Court of Michigan issued its order on FCA’s new proposal to join Roxor after 2020 and that based on its investigation, it has refused to apply the “safe distance rule” to the case as demanded by FCA. The company said in the filing that with this decision, there are no restrictions on Mahindra’s subsidiary Mahindra Automotive North America in the USA on its ability to produce, sell and distribute the Roxor after 2020.

The case against Mahindra began in 2019 when FCA claimed that the design of the Mahindra Roxor copied trademark-reserved components of its Jeep, and FCA filed suit against it before the Michigan and US International Trade Commission (ITC). Since then, Mahindra has had to tweak the design of the Roxor, first in early 2020 and again in late 2020, to make it stand out, as per the court ruling.
In September 2022, the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case to the Detroit court to determine whether enough changes have been made for the new Roxors to differentiate them from the Mahindra Jeep design. Since then Mahindra was unable to manufacture and sell the Roxor in the US.

In the Mahindra Roxor, the company gets a 2.5-litre diesel engine, which is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or automatic transmission. This off-roader is assembled in Detroit. Currently it is sold only in the US. Since its launch, the Roxor has attracted a lot of off-roader enthusiasts in the US. It is meant for off-road use only, although some states allow it to be driven on roads as well.
