Mahindra Thar 5 Door Unveil: Mahindra & Mahindra will unveil its long-awaited Thar 5-door on the occasion of Independence Day this year. This will be the fourth time that Mahindra will launch a new product on 15th August. The current Thar in 2020, the world premiere of the XUV 700 in 2021 and the Born Electric concept cars were showcased in the UK last year. This year it will be organized in South Africa.

The event is also significant for South Africa as it is expected to be one of the global markets where the new Thar will be launched. Mahindra, is present there since 1996 and has seen a boom in the company’s business here recently. The company wants to introduce the Thar to its SUV line-up in South Africa, which already sells the XUV300, XUV700 and the Scorpio N.
Chances of adding more customers
The 5-door Thar will come as an extension of the company’s product lineup, and through this Mahindra will try to attract more off-roader customers. Those who are looking for a tough SUV as well as a car in which they can sit comfortably with the whole family. The same is also seen in the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door.

The 5 door Thar will see a segment move up in the lineup. It will get the same 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine options as the 3-door Thar. The 5-door Thar will be much longer than the 5-door Jimny at 3,985 mm in length and could measure 1,820 mm and 1,850 mm in height, while the Jimny will be 1,645 mm wide and 1,720 mm tall. Unlike the 4-passenger layout of the Jimny and 3-door Thar, the 5-door Thar will have 5 seats, and is likely to get a three-row layout.
When will it be launched
Its wheels will be about 30 mm bigger. Its length will be more than 4-metres. This is not for people who like a small car. It is unlikely to get the recently introduced 1.5-litre diesel engine. Rest all the powertrain specs will be similar to the existing 3-door model. The 5-door Thar could be launched in India sometime in 2024.
who will compete
This SUV will compete with the Maruti Suzuki 5 door Jimny, in which a 1.5 liter petrol engine is available. It gets an all wheel drive system with Suzuki All Grip Pro technology.
