Vehicles Sales Report June 2023: Automobile dealers’ association ‘FADA’ has informed on Thursday that in June 2023, retail sales in the country have registered a growth of 10 percent due to increase in sales in various segments including passenger vehicles and two-wheelers. Last month, total retail sales have increased to 18,63,868 units as against 17,01,105 units in the month of June last year. While retail sales of passenger vehicles stood at 2,81,811 units in June 2022, it increased by 5 percent to 2,95,299 units in June 2023. Similarly, two-wheeler sales increased by 7 percent to 13,10,186 units last month, as against 12,27,149 units during the same month last year. While three-wheeler sales increased by 75 percent to 86,511 units from 49,299 units in June last year. Similarly, retail sales of tractors increased by 45 percent year-on-year to 98,660 units, while sales of other commercial vehicles increased marginally to 73,212 units as against 72,894 units in June 2022.
month-on-month decline in sales
FADA President Manish Raj Singhania said that with a year-on-year growth of 10 percent, the auto retail sector has witnessed a month-on-month decline of 8 percent, indicating a short-term slowdown in sales. However, after this, the flexibility in the development of India’s automobile industry remains intact. He said that three-wheeler, passenger vehicle and tractor segments have witnessed the highest ever sales in June 2023 as compared to the June month of all previous years. Also, this market is full of changing demand, new product portfolio and many ups and downs in the passenger vehicle segment. Talking about the two-wheeler sales, he said that some OEMs are facing supply constraints and there has been some drop in demand in the market due to economic conditions and cost of new entry-level bikes. Singhania said that due to the launch of the new model and the festive season, sales are expected to increase in the next few months. He has said that two-wheeler sales saw a month-on-month decline of 12 percent and electric vehicles saw a month-on-month decline of 56 percent, mainly because of the government reducing the FAME subsidy.
Demand will increase in the coming months
Manish Raj Singhania said that the commercial vehicle segment is facing a mixed response due to uneven demand, supply issues, government policies and external market factors. He also said that delayed and uneven rains could reduce crop yields, shorten crop cycles and delay harvesting in future. Automobile sales may be affected due to this development. Especially in rural areas, where farmers’ income may decrease due to a weak agricultural season, which may affect the demand for two-wheelers and entry-level cars. Nevertheless, agriculture can get a boost in this monsoon season, due to which demand can increase. Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) said that it has collected this vehicle retail data from 1,351 out of 1,437 RTOs across the country.
