Tomato Price: The prices of tomatoes are at a high level across the country, due to which the kitchen budget of the common people has deteriorated. Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 100 to 160 per kg in most parts of the country. Tomato is being sold at Rs 200 per kg in a city of the country and it is estimated that by next week the price of this tomato will increase to Rs 250 per kg.

According to the report of IANS, a wholesale trader of Koyambedu market says that the prices have increased due to the shortage of tomatoes in the market. The people of Tamil Nadu are constantly facing problems due to the rising price of tomatoes. The wholesale price of vegetables has reached Rs 200 per kg in the state capital and in many cities.

Why are the prices of tomatoes increasing so much in Tamil Nadu?

It has been told in the report of IANS that there is less supply of tomatoes from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It has been said in the report that it is raining intermittently in these areas, due to which the crop is facing significant damage. He said the entire crop was ruined due to heavy rains, leading to the current tomato shortage and resulting in higher prices.

Tomato prices can go up to this much

According to traders’ estimates, there is a possibility that tomato prices may continue to rise and within the next week it may reach Rs 250 per kg. P. Sukumaran, secretary of the Koyambedu Wholesale Merchants Association, said that this is the first time after the opening of this market that the price of tomato has reached Rs 200 per kg. However, he also said that the price is expected to be stable till July 20. Tomato is Rs 200 per kg in the wholesale market.

At present, tomatoes are being procured from many states for the supply of tomatoes in the country. According to PTI, NCCF is procuring tomatoes from major producing states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. According to the Consumer Affairs Ministry data, the all-India average retail price of tomato till July 29 was Rs 123.49 per kg, while the minimum rate was Rs 29 per kg. Data shows that on July 29, tomato was priced at Rs 167 per kg in Delhi, Rs 155 per kg in Mumbai and Rs 133 per kg in Chennai.
