TVS Motors Making A New Affordable Electric Scooter As A Version Of TVS iQube Electric Scooter

TVS iQube: The TVS iCube is one of the best models among all the electric two wheeler scooters available in the market. It is also the second best selling vehicle in the segment as well. However, there has been a big drop in the number of EV sales after the FAME 2 subsidy cut. With very little subsidy, introducing an electric scooter with a big battery is no longer a market fit. Especially when the competitive price tag has to be preferred. Keeping this in mind, many automakers will now start bringing existing vehicles in the market with smaller battery packs.

TVS is making affordable iCube

TVS is preparing to bring an affordable version of its popular iQube scooter. However, its details have not been disclosed yet. At present, the price of iQube electric scooter is already lower than flagship models like Ather, Bajaj and Ola, so the company can use a smaller battery pack to further reduce the cost.

Will get small battery pack

Currently, the standard iQube and iQube S variants are present in the iQube line-up. Both come with the same 3.04kWh battery. The launch of the iQube ST, which comes with a 4.56kWh battery, has been pending for a long time, but considering the low subsidy rates, it seems difficult to hit the market. Since the battery pack is the most expensive component of an electric scooter, TVS is likely to reduce it. But the information about how much it will be reduced is not available. We got a range of 107.2 km in Eco mode and 96 km in Power mode from the current iCube in testing.

Launch not revealed

To reduce the prices, the company can also cut some features of the iCube. It is a simple scooter, which comes with a TFT display. It can be removed in economical models. There is no timeline available for the more affordable TVS iQube yet, but the company has revealed the launch date for a more premium and sporty electric scooter, which could be based on the TVS Creon concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.

who competes with

Currently, the TVS iCube competes with the Ola S One in the market, which is claimed to have a range of 121 kilometers on a single charge.
