Car Sales Report June 2023: Car sales are expected to see a year-on-year increase in June 2023 due to a pick-up in manufacturing coupled with the launch of new vehicles and an improvement in semiconductor supply. Last month, a total of 3.27 lakh cars were sold in the country, which is a year-on-year growth of 2 percent. However, compared to 3.35 lakh units sold in May 2023, there has been a decline of 2 percent in sales.

Due to high demand and new models coming in the market, there has been a lot of growth in the SUV segment. India’s top 10 selling cars in June 2023 include six SUVs and four hatchback models. Maruti WagonR was the best selling hatchback with 17,481 units. While 15,955 units of Swift, 14,077 units of Baleno and 11,323 units of Alto were sold.

Hyundai Creta remains at the forefront of SUVs

In the SUV segment, Hyundai Creta led the way with sales of 14,447 units, as against 13,790 units in June 2022, registering a year-on-year growth of 5 percent. While Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Punch SUV stood second, third and fourth with sales of 13,827 units, 11,606 units and 10,990 units respectively. While Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza and Grand Vitara have registered sales of 10,578 units and 10,486 units respectively.

Almost all the car manufacturers are preparing to launch their new models before the festive season of this year. Maruti Suzuki has already launched the Franks compact crossover and the Jimny lifestyle SUV. While on July 5, 2023, the company will launch the Invicto Strong Hybrid MPV. With these three new vehicles, the company has further strengthened its position in the market and it is expected that the sales of the company will increase further.

Honda Cars India will soon enter the midsize SUV segment with the new Elevate. Whereas Kia will launch the updated Seltos. Along with this, Tata Motors is going to give mid-life update to its three popular SUVs, Nexon, Harrier and Safari. However, Mahindra will not launch any new vehicle this year.
